Career Connections Initiative
Career Connections brings business leaders with varying levels of experience across a range of industries into select Miami-Dade County Public middle schools and high schools. Speaking to their respective career paths and day-to-day experiences, panelists provide honest perspectives, answer questions and share lessons learned regarding career opportunities these students may not otherwise have considered or been exposed to.
Featured career paths align to the target industries identified as growth opportunities by One Community One Goal. Working closely with Miami-Dade County Public Schools and partners like the United Way of Miami-Dade, this particular OCOG initiative has allowed us to engage more than XXXX students over the past 8 years. Providing students direct access to some of our most engaged business and community leaders has challenged them to revisit their own pre-conceived notions not only about some of these careers – but about how they align to their own career interests and future job opportunities. Two approaches have been taken to this program: one with different schools hosting individual sessions throughout the academic year, while another centralizes all efforts in one school for the duration of the academic year. The latter, featuring different panelists visiting the same school and engaging the same students over the course of one year, not only exposes students to a variety of career paths but allows students to better understand the different aspects of work including soft skills, one’s personal brand and social media, etc.
